Trauma and Critical Care
Northwestern Medicine's Trauma/Critical Care Division delivers integrated state-of-the-art surgical care to critically ill and injured patients at Northwestern Medicine.
Northwestern Medicine is an Illinois-designated Level I trauma center. The Division of Trauma/ Critical Care coordinates the multidisciplinary care of trauma patients in conjunction with the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Urology, Anesthesia and others. Particular emphasis is placed on integrating the care across surgical or medical disciplines.
Early institution of nutritional support, physical and occupational therapy, rehabilitation medicine and coordinating social service and post-discharge planning are emphasized.
The Division also provides comprehensive Critical Care consultations for all surgical patients requiring critical care. The Division of Surgical Trauma/Critical Care works closely with Anesthesiology to ensure round the clock delivery of inpatient surgical critical care service.
Consultative services and therapies provided include; mechanical ventilation, nutritional support, invasive monitoring, fluid and electrolyte management, therapy of infections, hemodynamic management, and emergency interventions.
